Briefly, "Ink" is a sci-fi, fantasy thriller about 8 year old Emma and her father, John. Emma is snatched up by a lost soul, Ink, who is stuck in the in-between of life, dreams, death, and nightmares. To the awake world, Emma lies in a comatose state, but in the in-between Emma is shackled to Ink on her way to meet "the Assembly". Her father, John, awake throughout the movie, finds himself in a nightmare he can't seem to wake up from. "Ink" is a story of good and evil, right and wrong, and guilt and forgiveness. It's a dark but whimsical tale that tells a story even after the credits roll.
Being a low-budget film the quality isn't that of more expensive movies but the hazy, dream-like attribute is perfect for this story. The musical aspect fits beautifully and even becomes inspiring. The unique characters, good and evil, are unforgetabble. I also liked the simple, almost universal language this was told in. There were simple, unique terms used for the "job positions" of each character or group (pathfinder, story tellers, incubi).
There were a few things I didn't like about this movie, like the use of some props seemed too specific. The movie was too short to go over what these were exactly and why they were used. There were even close-ups of these props in use, as if they were important to the story later, yet were never mentioned or explained again.
Overall, I give this movie a 4.75 out of 5 stars and I usually hate sci-fi.
Side-note: It's 107 minutes long and there were no "famous" actors/actresses. The film-makers found that the rapid illegal sharing of this movie was the sole cause of it's popularity and DVD/Blu-ray sales.
